As one of the highlights of the list from the Mexican team, would be Carlos Vela (Real Sociedad) who is returning to the National Team since March of 2011, though he was called to play in Copa America 2011, his club did not allow him to go. Additionally, after a few disagreements between his father and the Mexican Football Federation (FEMEXFUT) the young player Jonathan Dos Santos (Barcelona) will be back.

Many Mexican fans were also expecting the return of a almost turned-off star Nery Castillo (Aris FC) whom after giving discipline problems in almost every club he would step in has seem to settle in Greece. Opposite to Nery’s great moment Giovani dos Santos (Tottenham Spurs) and Javier “Chicharito” Hernández (Manchester United) have been called by what they have shown in the last few months.

In order to grow we must remember our roots. Soccer in South Florida has been fragmented into eras. Well, South Florida has answered Garber’s call. We have done everything he asked us to do.

18,000+ fans came out for the two Gold Cup games At FIU Stadium in Miami.

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers attendance averaged 4,000 per game at Lockhart Stadium and made it to the final of  the NASL (Div 2).

The Barcelona and Chivas de Guadalajara game at Sun Life Stadium had the largest attended soccer game in Florida history 70,080 came out to see the game on a Wednesday night.

Over 21,000 showed up during a rain storm to watch the United States v Honduras October 8, 2011 at Sun Life Stadium. We had better attendance than NYC and Los Angeles (Two Major League soccer cities) for a USMNT game.

Mr Garber, South Florida has responded. We’re more than ready to support an MLS team. Second team in NYC… really? Orlando? Not a big enough market. You know the Southeast needs to have an MLS presence and Miami is a top Market MLS can’t continue to ignore. Vamos, bring us MLS. We’d love for it to be the Strikers!

We had the opportunity to meet with two soccer legends in Jorge Campos and Carlos “Pibe” Valderrama!

We were informed that a myriad of events will take place leading up to this fantastic showdown. The Ultras will be attending this game and have been assigned to section 129 in SunLife Stadium. Be sure to stay tuned as we will be revealing a discount code soon.

It is now time to turn over the Ultras President role over to some new blood, someone that can take this group to the next level. Your new President is none other than Uncle Ed Serrano. Ed has been a vital member of the Ultras for many years and has some great plans for the future.

Here’s what Ed has to say about his new role.

“It’s an honor to take the wheel of the Ultras, South Florida’s premier supporters club. Being part of this organization has been a great and fun experience. I’ve made some good friends and hope to continue to make more. We’ve been through a lot, starting with Miami FC and its transformation into the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, to our meeting with Major league Soccer’s commissioner Don Garber. We’ve been on TV shows such as Univision’s Republica Deportiva, we’ve started an internet radio show (Miami Ultras Alive) that has had soccer personalities such as Phil Shoen, Big O, Tim Robbie, Ian Bishop, just to name a few. Plus the creation of the Ultras soccer team which has participated in many tournaments such as MLS futbolito as well as the new FIFA video game tournaments we’ve organized. Much has been accomplished with this group and our name is now nationally known throughout the soccer community. The Ultras are now synonymous with South Florida soccer. I hope to contribute in taking the Ultras to the next level and hope to meet future Ultras at the Strikers games”.

Plus we will have MLS legend Mauricio Cienfuegos as our special guest. Cienfuegos is one of MLS’s best playmakers of all time playing for the LA galaxy and the Salvadorian National Team.

As we look back at the 2011 season you can’t help but mostly remember all the new members of the Ultras. The new faces and voices that helped lift this group to the next level. The Strikers attendance grew to almost 4,000 average attendance. Miles above what we had with Miami FC, the fall of the Blues and the rise of the Red and Gold.

Things will only get better as the 2012 season looks to build upon a solid foundation created this season. Tim Robbie and staff made a huge difference with much better marketing and ticket sales. Starting the 2012 season ticket sales in the last quarter of this season was huge, capitalizing on the nice play of the team as they made their push for the Soccer Bowl trophy.

Next season we’ll look to have more stability on the field with 12-15 players that the coaching staff plans to bring back. That is something Miami FC never had, continuity and familiarity is so important to building a successful club.

2012 is going to be a huge year for the red and gold so don’t miss a minute of the action. Get your 2012 Strikers season tickets now while the price is still low.

This is the dawning of a new era at Lockhart

Here we go, here we go again:  Out to the edge of the universe, and we stand staring at destiny in its eyes.  The cycle, it’s now almost complete—it almost evaded us, but fate had other plans— we hold the final building block of this championship structure…gulls in the sky and the brine in our faces, yeah you know we’re in Sunny SoFlo at The ‘Lock; So near the beach, the sand fills our sandals and hair and the magic radiating from the pitch fills the air everywhere.

Look at us standing, look at us chanting, and look at the whole of us waiting.  Just to see those eleven jerseys fight adversity and make the grandstands explode with confetti and streamers over and over again.  Look at us standing on our own again:  trying to fend off all the negativity from the nether region of Florida, yes, the T@mpons are hatin’…but we know that they know that we know that they wouldn’t want that NASL Championship Trophy anywhere else but over here:  In the Great State of the Sunshine!

Fort Lauderdale Strikers are going up against all odds tonight (Sat 10/29)!  The wind in your eyes, or the rain on your head seem to hate you because you are there, going crazy, blasting at the top of your lungs everything that you have for Them.  And you will see us:  Ultras, Flight-19, Commando954, CSE, and all of those who join in every chant and rant, standing tall and firmly—at the edge of the universe, at the edge of a black hole, staring at destiny in its eyes…VAMOSTRIKERS!

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (October 27, 2011) – After careful consideration, the Board of Governors of Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) voted on Tuesday to terminate the Boca Raton based magicJack franchise. WPS will continue to deliver to its players and fans the world’s top women’s soccer league, with plans to make 2012 the most competitive and successful season to date.

It’s a sad day for Womens Professional Soccer in South Florida, but let’s be honest we all saw this coming. MJ owner Dan Borislow was an owner with a horrocious ego. Thinking he could do whatever he wanted and break any rule he wished. Doesn’t the league know that rules don’t apply to magicDan?

It was fun while it lasted. We got a chance to see world class talent on an amateur field and setting. Dan never truly honored these women the way they should have been. These are World Cup and Olympic team players that were treated like pub team players. The plug got pulled just when MJ picked up some steam due to the World Cup and the FAU Stadium opened. Dan planned on doing things properly next season by playing in the new FAU football stadium that recently opened, or so he said.

I guess Abby Wambach is now free to join the Western NY Flash in her hometown of Rochester.

The struggling WPS is now down to only 5 teams. I am surprised they did not force magicDan to sell the franchise to help and keep the league alive. This league is possibly on its’ last legs, they need to help that a new owner could have provided.

Dan Borislow had this to say to Washington Post’s Steve Goff:

“I could not persuade most of the other Governors and the league for what I thought the priorities of the league should be.

1. The WPS should be subservient to the US WNT [national team] and do everything in its power to bring home [Olympic] Gold next year.

2. The teams should pay its best players a fair salary and something they can raise a family with. Anything less you should not be entitled to Division I status and this concerned me, particularly when the league can’t keep enough teams.

That being said, a disagreement like this is not grounds for termination. The league continues to cause permanent damage and now taken away our ability to even sell the franchise, all without due process. MagicJack and myself will do everything we can to help our Women bring home the Gold next year [in London]. Our priority has not and will not change.”

7:30 pm is when the game starts but the party starts much earlier with the “Quite Befuddling Van Gogh Tailgate Party!” hosted by our tailgate specialist Chris Marrazzo. There will be beer, liquor, drinking games, funnels and we’ll also kick the ball around in our drunken stupor. It will be an amazing tailgate worthy of a playoff win.

As things stand now Martyn Lancaster is in first place, a favorite of the Ultras. No matter the result he will always find time for the fans. He had a great play clearing the ball off the goal line against Montreal preserving a tie and a great first goal for the rebranded Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

Close behind in the voting is goalkeeper Matt Glaeser. The tallest player on the club also stands tall in the net. Normaly soft spoken, his control as the last line of defense and the restart of the attack speaks volumes. He also does an impressive Sean Connery impression, I heard.

Eduardo “Chacho” Coudet leads the team in goals scored. As a vocal leader he is a favorite player of our Argentinian fan base. He is money in the bank from the PK spot and dangerous on free kicks.

Brian Shriver has elevated his level of play over last year. During the Ultras radio show, Miami Ultras Alive, special guest Big O mentioned that Shriver would be his pick. Brian is also the only member of the Strikers to have a multi goal game. He has accomplished this twice, netting two goals both times.

Aaron Hohlbein was the team captain before the injury bug hit. Has he made enough of an impact to earn your vote.

Players who have scored important goals to salvage victories or ties like Matin Nunez, Mike Palacio, Abe Thompson or Gerson Mayen who scored what most likely is the most important goal of the year might be considered.

Defensive players usually do not get the recognition they deserve. Are there any votes for Christian Arrieta, Lance Laing, Tony Stahl or Bryan Arguez?

History of the Miami Ultras Player of the Year is the brainchild of Miami Ultras founder Pieter Brown, the cup was first awarded in 2008 to #9 Alex “The Fonz” Afonso. Alex was a unanimous choice as he was one of very few bright spots as the Miami FC Blues ended the season tied for 10th place with a record of 8 wins, 10 ties and 12 losses. His 15 goals edged out Sebastien LeToux of the Seattle Sounders total of 14. It is the only time a Miami FC player won the goal scorers title outright. In 2006 (our inaugural season) Romario tied with Cam Weaver with 18 goals although Romario played in less games. To show how impressive Afonso’s total was, his 15 goals were over half the teams total 28. The award was presented at Tropical Park.

2009 the Miami FC Blues split playing time between FIU and Lockhart Stadium. The award went to #3 Zach “Beowulf” Kirby and was presented at Lockhart Stadium. This is the only year an attacking player did not receive the award. Zach is also the only winner to not leave the team at the end of the season.

In 2010 the award went to attacking midfielder #10 Christian “Gomito” Gomez. Goalkeeper caleb Patterson #40 and defender #27 Martyn Lancaster finished in second and third respectfully. The was was again presented at Lockhart Stadium.

The Sports Illustrated cover jinx is well known but the Ultras Player of the Year award also might have a jinx. As stated prior 2 out of 3 winners did not return to play for our club. Zach, the lone returnee’s career was cut short due to injuries. Also none of the 3 winners ever played a playoff game for our club, a tradition we hope to end.
